"Dear Dr. Sam and Staff,
I wanted to write a thank you. I can not begin to explain what it has
meant to me to finally have had a dental experience where I was not
terrified or left to feel foolish because of my fears. You and your
excellent staff were so wonderfully caring and considerate.
For more than 50 of my 57 years, I have been afraid of dentists.
Dentistry in the 1950’s and 1960’s was nobody’s idea of a fun visit and
the dentists my family took me to, “old school” thought-just grip the
chair and bear it, it will be over soon! As a result of this approach, I
developed a morbid fear of dentists-and my teeth looked it. Of course,
over the years I was forced to visit various dentists but still the fear
was there and as soon as what was absolutely necessary was done, I was
out of the way, usually never to return to the same dentist again.
Before meeting you, my last dental appointment had been made more than
10 years ago. Though the former dentist was nice enough, his staff was
completely insensitive to my fears and made fun of it-within my hearing
range! Though that office was near my home I wasn’t ever going back
there.
When I went looking for a dentist this time, I knew I had serious dental
problems. One tooth was already bothering me and I was sure it needed to
come out. I had wanted to find a dentist who could give me the
opportunity to be sedated so the dental work could be done while I was
asleep. An on-line search identified your office as having this as an
option and so I made an appointment. Right from the first I was
impressed. Appointments were readily available and for the fearful
person, there would have been nothing worse than a long wait. When I
came in, you and your staff members were kind and considerate and never
once made me feel foolish. You also never made me feel embarrassed by
the poor state of my teeth but instead reassured that all could be put
to rights. I had originally come seeking sedation but ended up feeling
confident in you, that I went ahead with the treatment without utilizing
it; fully comfortable, fully satisfied and never once afraid.
I never sought to have a “toothpaste ad” smile. Straight white TV teeth
have never been my goal. I just wanted my teeth to be presentable and
healthy. Now I have and I am very well pleased. More than that, I am not
afraid any longer.
